Blue Fairytale

I'm just going to chuck this piece up here. I'm not sure if all the typos have been evened out so if you spot one, let me know (don't mistake me for someone who'd split a hair over a comma when you can fit a world into just a paragraph). I first wrote it in Estonian and the original is around here somewhere. Stashed away in this shoddy inventory of broken thoughts.
If you ask me why put it up again then I'll just say that it's something still relevant to me and it has stood the test of time. It's the underlying thoughts that make us who we are. There are no lies there.
So here it goes. As short and trivial as it might seem.

Once upon a time there lived a boy by the sea of Sadness thad lied right next to Blue mountains. His home was a great cave of Ice dragons and even the cave itself was as if made of ice. His skin was scaly blue and in his deep blue eyes there was a mysterious red gloom.
He used to sit by the entrance of the great cave and only came out at night. His heart didn't beat for a lon time now and he spent his nights by wandering around in forests.
It's as if he was searching for something even though he didn't want for anything. All that he needed was already there and so did also tell him the Ice dragons.
He could jump on their backs every time he wanted to and could fly through the vastness of space, walk on the moon or explore Mars' canyons.
The whole world was open to him. He was an immortal with the goods and the bads.
So one night he was gazing the sky again and found a shimmery blue planet in the distange. Since his world too was all blue he didn't pay much attention to that little blue ball there. He was just curious about the people who might live there
Do they also live in ice caves and fly on the backs of dragons every night and have everything that they need.
His mouth turned into a little line and he got thinking. Also curious. He made a plan that he should fly to that planet the very next night.
He told the Ice dragons about his wish to visit that planet but all the dragons did was ask - why? another blue planet? it's nothing special at all really. The boy didn't give up. All of his life had been a big great silence through eons.
He refused to believe that all the places that there are, are the same. He refused to accept that.
So the next evening he began his yourney to that planet.
He reached it and saw that it sas not blue at all. It was covered with warm seas and waving green forests.
He didn't understand any of it and decided to take a closer look.
He landed in a forest with his dragon and started exploring. The whole world was filled with a lot of noises and that planet only had one moon which caressed the woods with it's faint glow.
The boy laughed out loud. Everything was green but the light was white. Everything that was green, wasn't only green but there were also different colours. There was so much to explore and more to find each time you looked closer.
So he realised that this place was even more colourful than all of his jewels combined together.
So he started to visit this planet every night
until in a deep forest, by a small lake he saw a Girl, sitting on a rock.
He just watched her without daring to approach her. She sat there almost every night and there were times when she cried and there were times when she laughed.
The boy didn't understand any of these things.
So one time he just couldn't resist any more and thought about confronting the Girl about these things.
This time the girl was smiling and laughing to herself. As the boy approached the air got more frosty and you could see her breath in the air. She was wearing a night gown and her green eyes matched the green of the forest in the moonlight.
"What is it that you are doing" asked the boy.
"What do you mean? I'm just sitting here and being happy about how beautiful the sky is and how bright the moon is", the Girl replied.
It's called laughing, the Girl added. You do that when you are happy.
Haven't you ever been happy, she asked the boy.
"I don't know if I have", the boy replied and fell into thought. Would you teach me?
I could try, the Girl replied and took the boy's hand
but she instantly pulled back her hand as seeing the scaly skin the boy had.
She didn't know why she reacted this way and the boy didn't realise what it was that he felt.
So the boy called for his dragon and left in a rush.
The next night the boy returned and hoped to see the Girl again.
He found her in the exact same spot but this time he noticed the Girl was crying.
He just watched her in distance and saw her tears fall into the lake as shiny pearls or diamonds.
She was trying to hide her face but the tears fell and fell as they made circles on the lake and reached all the shores.
The boy didn't know how he should react and it felt strange.
He approached the girl and asked her what's she doing now.
The Girl only sobbed.
She asked, why did you ran away like this yesterday. Did I scare you? why...? She drilled her green eyes into the boy's.
I don't know why I left. I didn't know what happened. Something moved inside me and I thought that you felt it too. Did you get scared for the same reason?
No. I just didn't know that you have so cold hands.
Are you smiling again or is this something new, the boy continued
The Girl wiped her tear soaked face and fell into thought again.
No. I was crying. Howcome you don't know these things?
I couldn't possibly know these things since I haven't seen any of this before. So the boy told the girl about his life in the vastness of the cosmos and his journeys between the stars.
He told her about Ice dragons, about the blue mountains, about faraway planets and the shiniest stars in which's winds he has flown. About all the biggest diamonds and the deepest caves he has ever found.
In the coldness of space there is no room for warmth so he too was cold.
He had everything he needed and he always got what he wanted.
It seemed that the girl understood him.
You know, she said, there actually isn't much difference between crying and smiling. They are both emotions
and they come out when we feel something.
The boy started thinking, sat down by the Girl and handed her his blue scaly hand. Don't be afraid, I don't want to be that cold but I'm made this way. The boy felt embarassed for himself
seeing how warm the Girl is. It made him feel inferior and bad about himself. Being different.
Would you teach me this laughing thing, the boy asked.
I don't like crying much. I wouldn't want bits and pieces falling off from me.
The girl just smiled and told " do not be afraid to give something away but be careful with what you are given". Right after that the Girl handed him three deep blue blueberries that she had picked.
Here, try them.
The girl stared deep into his eyes until the boy accepted them. He finally reached out and stuck them hastily in his mouth. Feeling the taste of them he started to laugh. Little by little and then more and more. He didn't realise what was this feeling he felt but it was full and sweet.
What are these, he asked her.
They are blueberries.
What do you mean? They are blue but not cold at all
they taste sweet and warm and what is a berry anyway?
The Girl just shrugged. Only you can tell what they taste like. Nobody else can say it for you.
I'm not quite following you but I do like them.
Suddenly something inside the boy cracked and felt as if warm. Seeing the smile on the girl's face the smile in him got bigger and felt even warmer.
So they just sat there on the rock for a long time and stared into their deep blue-green eyes and laughed some more.
When the morning came, the boy flew back to his home on his dragon and the Girl always waited for him at the exact same spot.
The Girl told him about her home, about the green and the light blue sky, which was black and even a bit scary at nights.
The boy in turn told her stories about the deep of space, which isn't scary at all, just really empty. He showed her also where his home lies in the great expanse of the universe. The Girl remembered that spot well.
The summer easily slided into autumn and the girl had to return to her castle and leave the forest behind.
The castle got reallly cold at winters and She had always been hiding from the cold. She was still from a totally different world.
As a farewell gift the girl handed him a handful of blueberries, so he could always eat some of them every time he feels too cold.
The boy had nothing to give in return so he left without giving anything from himself.
The boy continued to visit the Girl's castle and watched her in the window but she didn't notice that.
So the boy was left to roam the universe alone again, since the dragons didn't like the boy spending all his time on that planet.
The dragons needed him to pick rubys on Mars, bring topaz from Jupiter and what more.
The whole of the universe needed to be explored and a lot more jewels to be collected.
So at one night the boy was sitting at the entrance of his cave again and pulled out a small diamond box from his pocket.
He picked out all of the blueberries the girl had given him and stuck them in his mouth and started to cry.
Little red streaks of tears fell down his cheeks onto the blue sand.
Yes, really. There was not much difference between crying and laughing for the boy.
He wasn't sure anymore if the Girl was still sitting somewhere in her tower and gazing the sky but he sure hoped so.
And that was enough for him.
So they lived happily until the ends of their lives but that summer they had, they could never get back.
The boy remembered that Girl and the taste of blueberries. The Girl spent all of her summers sitting on that same rock by the lake in the forest.
Sometimes she cried and sometimes she laughed.
And if they still live on, then the girl is still sitting there by this lake, watching the night skies and there is also a boy on a distant planet, by the sea of sadness, on the rocky shores of a deep blue ocean.
He still remembers the taste of blueberries and what it is to smile.
